Frequently Asked Questions (Manual)
Guidelines for using ieum's secure messenger features.
🔐 Signup & Security
Does ieum have no central server? How are messages sent?
ieum is a P2P-oriented messenger rather than a centralized one. The server only acts as a relay. Messages sent from your smartphone are encrypted with the X25519 algorithm and reach the recipient via the relay server, where they are permanently deleted from the queue the moment the recipient confirms receipt.
What are the 12 words (Mnemonic) during signup?
ieum does not collect phone numbers or emails. Instead, it generates an anonymous ID via Proof of Work (PoW) and provides 12 English words as your master key. You cannot recover your account without these 12 words when changing devices, so please write them down safely. While this may be slightly inconvenient, it ensures no personal data is submitted and you remain the sole owner of your secret key.
Can I lock the app with a password?
Yes. You can set a 4 or 6-digit numeric passcode under [Settings] > [Privacy & Security] > [App Lock Settings] to block access to the app.
💬 Chat & Messaging
Can I edit a sent message later?
Yes. Long-press a sent message and select [Edit] to change the content in real-time. Changes are immediately reflected on the recipient's screen. Note that editing is available for 10 minutes after sending.
How do I send a Poof message (self-destructing)?
Click the bomb icon to the right of the input field to set a timer for 10 seconds or 1 minute.
Can I delete a message sent by mistake?
Absolutely. Long-press the message and select [Delete for Everyone]. Unlike standard messengers, there is no time limit, and the message is instantly purged from both screens.
Is full encryption supported in group chats?
Yes, ieum's group chats are safely protected by symmetric key encryption. You can use announcements, replies, and reactions just as safely as in 1:1 chats.
How do I post a chat room announcement?
Long-press a message and select [Register Announcement]. An announcement banner will appear at the top and synchronize for all participants.
🤖 Local AI Assistant
Will my work files be leaked if I upload them to the AI Document Vault?
Never. ieum's AI Vault uses GraphRAG technology to analyze PDF documents locally using your smartphone's CPU/GPU. No data is sent to external servers, so your confidential work or private journals are safe.
Does translation work inside the phone too?
Yes. It utilizes the built-in Small Language Model (Gemma-4-E2B, etc.) to perform translation, grammar correction, and summarization offline without an internet connection. This is useful during flights or emergencies.
